The mission of the National Alopecia Areata Foundation
(NAAF) is to support research to find a cure or
acceptable treatment for alopecia areata, to support
those with the disease, and to educate the public
about alopecia areata.
The mission is accomplished by:
Funding research and research workshops that add to the scientific knowledge about alopecia areata, its causes,
and different treatments
Providing local support and education
for people with alopecia areata and their families
Informing the public about alopecia areata
Advocating
the concerns of people affected alopecia areata
Creating and distributing educational materials
to health professionals as well as
those affected, so that all may better understand alopecia areata
The Canadian Hair Research Foundation responds to
the growing need for centralized, credible, evidence-based information
on hair diseases and hair loss.
The
Canadian Hair Research Foundation is a research-focused organization
dedicated to sustaining continuous education and medical research into
hair and hair-related conditions in order to better inform interested
individuals and provide improved care for all those with hair disorders.
There is a great deal of information out there
concerning hair loss, but what solution is right for you? The American
Hair Loss Council is the nation's only, unbiased, not-for-profit
agency, dedicated to sorting through this information, discovering what
works and what doesn't, and presenting our findings to the consumer.
Our membership is composed of dedicated professionals, manufacturers,
service providors and technology leaders in the hair restoration
industry. It is our goal to unite a diversified industry as to better
understand hair loss, regardless of the cause.
The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine
(NCCAM) is the Federal Government's lead agency for scientific research
on complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). We are 1 of the 27
institutes and centers that make up the National Institutes of Health (NIH) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Our Mission
The mission of NCCAM is to:
Explore complementary and alternative healing practices in the context of rigorous science.
Train complementary and alternative medicine researchers.
Disseminate authoritative information to the public and professionals.
What We Do
NCCAM sponsors and conducts research using scientific methods and
advanced technologies to study CAM. CAM is a group of diverse medical
and health care systems, practices, and products that are not presently
considered to be part of conventional medicine.
NCCAM has four primary areas of focus:
Advancing scientific research
We have funded more than 1,200 research projects at scientific institutions across the United States and around the world.
Training CAM researchers
We support training for new researchers as well as encourage experienced researchers to study CAM.
Sharing news and information
We provide timely and accurate information about CAM research in many ways, such as through our Web site, our information clearinghouse, fact sheets, Distinguished Lecture Series, continuing medical education programs, and publication databases.
Supporting integration of proven CAM therapies
Our research helps the public and health professionals understand which CAM therapies have been proven to be safe and effective.
The mission of the National Institute of Arthritis and
Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases is to support research into the causes,
treatment, and prevention of arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin
diseases, the training of basic and clinical scientists to carry out
this research, and the dissemination of information on research progress
in these diseases.
Extramural Program (EP) The staff of the Extramural Program is dedicated
to our research community. We administer the grants and contracts
to support research and research training in the scientific areas
and clinical research advancing the treatment of arthritis, musculoskeletal
and skin diseases.
Intramural Research Program
(IRP) The missions of the Intramural Research Program
of NIAMS are to conduct innovative basic and translational research
relevant to the health concerns of the Institute and to provide training
for investigators interested in careers in these areas. The ultimate
goals are to provide new insights into the normal function of joints,
skin and muscle and diseases that affect them and to generate a cadre
of well-trained investigators equipped to continue the progress to
a complete understanding of these structures and disease conditions
that affect them adversely. Intramural investigators pursue diverse
projects in biomedical research ranging from fundamental analyses
of protein structure and function involving crystallography, cryoelectron
microscopy, and atomic force microscopy, through protein chemistry,
cell biology, signal transduction, gene regulation, tissue development
and differentiation, genetics and immunology to more directly applicable
research on the genetics, etiology, pathogenesis and treatment of
a variety of rheumatic, autoimmune, inflammatory, joint, skin and
muscle diseases
The European Hair Research Society is an independent,
non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the research
of hair biology and hair disease in Europe.
The European Hair Research Society has an international
membership of scientists, dermatologists, and professionals
workingin academia, industry, and government. The European
Hair Research Society represents its members by promoting
the pursuit of excellence and the dissemination of information
regarding hair biology and encourages the scientific careers
of young investigators.
The European Hair Research Society serves as an advocate
and resource for increasing public and government awarenessof the needs for, and advances resulting from, hair research.
The European Hair Research Society supports and organizes meetings dedicated to the presentation of new research findings,
exchange of information, education of its members, and the advancement of science.
The
North American Hair Research Society members are clinical or basic
science researchers that who are committed to unraveling the causes and
developing effective treatments for disorders of hair growth.
The North American Hair Research Society's mission is:
To strongly encourage and promote scientific research in the field of the normal and disordered hair growth.
To promote dissemination of state of the art knowledge on hair biology and medical hair disorders.
To promote interdisciplinary interaction between basic
scientists and clinicians through regular meetings, publications and
innovative communication.
To establish links with other international hair research societies and to arrange combined meetings on a periodic basis.
To educate both our colleagues and the public on hair biology and the pathophysiology and treatment of hair related conditions.
To create and maintain a database of hair disorders that will
foster greater enhanced communication between bench scientists,
clinicians, industry, patient support societies, lay public, government
and managed care organizations.
